PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth Police have charged a Maine man with assaulting a 21-year-old female while she was working at the Newport Beach Club last month.

Patrick A. Tinsman, 47, of 91 Old Ocean House Road, Cape Elizabeth, turned himself in on a Portsmouth warrant on Tuesday, Oct. 9, according to Detective Lt. Michael C. Arnold.

Police said that on Sept. 3, the woman told police she had been assaulted while working at the Newport Beach Club, 195 Newport Harbor Drive, on Saturday, Sept. 1. She said Mr. Tinsman slapped her on the buttocks and ran off, according to Lt. Arnold.

“After an investigation it was determined that during the night, Tinsman attempted to coerce female employees to consume alcohol during their shift and was observed to be highly intoxicated,” he said in a prepared statement.

Police issued a warrant on Oct. 3 and Mr. Tinsman turned himself in to 2nd District Court in Newport on Tuesday morning, Oct. 9, Lt. Arnold said.
