PORTSMOUTH — There’s a new deputy police chief in town — Major Michael Morse.
Morse, a 15-year veteran of the Portsmouth Police Department, was sworn in Monday night by Town Clerk Jennifer West during the Town Council meeting at Town Hall. He succeeds Michael Arnold, who recently retired.
Morse recently served as the department’s administrative captain, overseeing the department’s detective division and administrative division to include: Prudence Island public safety, harbormaster, animal control, records, and reserve officers.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in cybersecurity, both from Roger Williams University. Major Morse is a graduate of the FBI New England Regional Command College, and the Roger Williams University Justice System and Training Institute Executive Development Course.
He was a previous member of the R.I. State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and is a current member of the Joint Cybercrime Task Force. Major Morse will now oversee all the daily operations of the divisions within the department.
