Portsmouth man charged with domestic assault, blocking call

PORTSMOUTH — A local man was arrested Friday, Dec. 6, and charged with domestic assault and domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone. 

Police responded to the home of Donald B. Perry, 59, of 8 Second St., around 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a 32-year-old Portsmouth woman who said she had been threatened with being stabbed. 

Police said they determined Mr. Perry had struck the victim in the face as she was placing the 911 call and removed the phone from her hand.

Here are some other highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past week:

Thursday, Dec. 5

Robert McChesney, 40, of 12 Kensington Ave., was charged with larceny of firearm, possessing loaded weapons in vehicles, and illegal possession of weapons other than firearms at about 7:30 p.m. Police responded to Mr. McChesney’s home earlier in the day to investigate a report of a stolen firearm. Mr. McChesney later arrived at the police station to speak with officers about the alleged incident. After an interview, police said they determined there was probable cause to arrest the suspect. Mr. McChesney was arraigned the following morning in 2nd Division District Court.

Friday, Dec. 6

Scott E. Smith, 28, of 545 Detroit St., Fall River, was arrested at the Hope Valley barrack of the Rhode Island State Police around 3:40 a.m. on a Portsmouth Police warrant for obstructing an officer in execution of duty. Mr. Smith was held in Hope Valley until he was picked up by Portsmouth Police.

Stephanie L. Ferreira, 43, of 39 Belvedere Drive, Bristol, was charged with driving after her license had been denied, suspended or revoked, her third offense. Police made the arrest after stopping the driving for a traffic violation on West Main Road at Russo Road just before 9 p.m. She was processed the released on a 2nd District Court summons, police said.

Saturday, Dec. 7

Christopher G. Salle, 39, of 17 Debra Drive, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being pulled over due to an inoperable taillight on West Main Road at West Passage Drive just after midnight. Police also cited him for refusing a chemical test. Mr. Salle was held overnight pending arraignment in the morning.

Two people were charged with injuring or tampering with vehicles after police responded to 150 Dexter St. to investigate a report of a man trying to gain access to a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, police found Aaron N. MacDonald, 22, of 388 Child St., first floor, Warren,  and Dakota J. Cronin, 25. Of 27 Pearson Ave., Pawtucket, at the scene. Police said they determined both men had been entering vehicles and removing items. 

Helena A. Soares, 57, of 54 Maize Corn Road, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), after police responded to a call for service at 1550 West Main Road at about 12:30 p.m. Police also cited her for refusing a chemical test. 

Sara T. Braswell, 45, of 86 Pleasant St., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after police pulled her vehicle over for a traffic violation on West Main Road at King Charles Drive shortly before 9 p.m. During the arrest, a passenger in the vehicle, Michael P. Billing, 46, of the same address, became irate and would not listen to the officers’ commands, according to police. Mr. Billing eventually lunged toward one of the officers, according to police, and was charged with disorderly conduct.

Sunday, Dec. 8

Michelle E. Raduano, 56, of 273 Indian Ave., was arrested on a warrant at her home around 8 a.m. on a charge of writing fraudulent checks (under $1,000), according to police.
