PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School girls’ gymnastics team took second place in a meet against Barrington, West Warwick and Cranston on Saturday.
The Patriots scored 127.8 points as a team at the meet, which was held at Prestige Fitness & Gymnastics Center in Swansea.
Cranston came in first with an overall score of 131.35. Barrington had 122.45 points, and West Warwick scored 117.2.
Portsmouth’s Caroline Daly lead her team in the all-arounds, scoring a total of 32.95 points on the vault, bars, beam and floor events. She scored an 8.15 on the vault, 8.5 on the bars, 8.25 on the beam and 8.05 on the floor exercise.
She was followed by Madison Both (31.75), Fiona Daly (31.2), Gabriella Randazzo (30.9) and Caityln Wordell (29.95).
Both and Randazzo both scored an 8.4 on the vault, while Melanie Williams scored an 8.0 on the beam. In the floor exercise, Both scored an 8.0. Jonah Clark scored an 8.1 on the vault.
The team, coached by Melissa Gendreau, will compete against multiple schools at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, at the Newport County YMCA in Middletown. Another multi-school meet will be held there at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7.
