The Portsmouth High School girls’ cross-country team continued its winning ways on Monday, defeating defeated Mt. Hope (15-50), Tiverton (15-50) and St. Raphael (18-45) in a dual meet at Colt State Park in Bristol.
The Patriots were led by Sofia White, who took first place in the 3.1-mile course with a time of 20:47, followed closely behind by teammate Elizabeth Sullivan, who took second in 20:55.
Here’s how the rest of the team fared: Haley Scardina (fifth place), 22:53; Becky Lawson (sixth), 23:07; Sam Lesieur (ninth), 25:37; Maggie Lasky (10th), 25:38; and Paige Shapiro (14th), 26:10.
The Patriots are now 6-0 in the Metro Division.
Boys split
The PHS boys’ team beat St. Raphael, 19-36, but lost to Mt. Hope, 32-23. The team is now 3-1 in the Eastern Division.
Senior Brandon Cawley took third place overall with a time of 18:41. He was followed by sophomore Ezra Leary (sixth), 18:54; sophomore Noah Gramitt (seventh), 19:04; sophomore Ethan Shea (ninth), 19:56; and senior Mike Chisolm (11th), 20:24.
“Ezra and Noah improved their time by two minutes from last year on this course,” said head coach Shaun Horgan.
Next up for both teams is another dual meet at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, this time at Glen Park in Portsmouth. Other teams competing are Tiverton, East Providence and LaSalle.
