PORTSMOUTH — Down six goals with under 20 minutes to play? No problem for the Portsmouth High School girls’ lacrosse team, which came back to beat Cranston West in a wild semifinal matchup on Tuesday. 

The Division II Patriots, who have been dominate all season — winning most of its games by at least double digits — got a scare on Tuesday, but never counted themselves out. 

The Falcons were down 5-4 in the first half before ripping off six unanswered goals to take a 10-5 advantage. 

Ellie Skeels was having none of it, however, scoring the last six goals of the game for a 15-14 win. Of those six goals, her last five came in under four minutes, including the game-winner with under 50 seconds left. Skeels ended up with seven goals and one assist.

Grace Boneu had five goals and four assists, while Roche (one assist), Margaux Boneu and Emilie Bobola each contributed a goal apiece. 

Goalkeeper Emmy O’Connor had six saves for the Patriots.

After surviving their first major test, the Patriots now move on to the championship game against No. 2 Burrillville on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cranston Stadium.
