PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Patriots boys’ hockey team took one step closer to their goal of a Rhode Island Division II title when they advanced to the semifinals over the weekend.
PHS, the No. 1 seed, swept a best-of-three quarterfinal series against North Smithfield, winning 3-1 on Friday at Portsmouth Abbey, then 4-3 Saturday at the Rhode Island Sports Center. The Northmen were the No. 8 seed.
The Patriots will play Narragansett/Chariho, the No. 6 seed, in the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, at Schneider Arena at Providence College.
The other semifinal matchup will be between No. 2-seeded Rogers and the winner of the Lincoln/Ponaganset series, which was tied 1-1 going into Sunday.
