PORTSMOUTH — Powered by the offensive duo of Ben Hurd (26 points) and Justin Parsons (20 points), the Portsmouth High School boys’ basketball team defeated Narragansett Monday night, 77-69, to advance to the Division II semifinals on Friday, March 6.
The Patriots, the top seed, will play the winner of the Cranston West/East Greenwich game, which was scheduled for Tuesday night. The location had not been determined.
Parsons scored 16 of his points in the first half, while Hurd scored 18 in the second half.
Also contributing on offense were Elijah Newsome (11 points), Jack Bielawa (8), Robbie Yates (7), and Tim Chlaupek (5).
The Patriots’ scoring included five 3-pointers, and 32-of-41 free throws made.
The overall high scorer was the Mariners’ Colby Corson, who finished with 30 points.
Narragansett was the No. 9 seed going into the game.
