Police: Portsmouth man threatened family member with knife

PORTSMOUTH — A 27-year-old Portsmouth man was charged with domestic felony assault with a dangerous weapon on Friday, Sept. 25, after allegedly threatening a family member with a knife.

Police said they responded around 8:10 p.m. to the home of Andrew S. Garcia, of 3 Sylvania Road, Apt. 3, where they found Mr. Garcia in his bedroom and arrested him.

The victim was a 30-year-old Portsmouth man, according to police.

Here are some other recent highlights from the Portsmouth Police report:

Wednesday, Sept. 23

Jermaine L. Bell, 42, of 6015 Lake Forest Road, Charlotte, N.C., was arrested on a Superior Court full bench warrant out of 6th District Court after being pulled over for a roadway violation on West Main Road at Raytheon shortly before 1 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 26

Kirklin P. Roderick, 24, of 144 Bramans Lane, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), reckless driving and possession of marijuana after being pulled over for speeding on West Main Road around 1:20 a.m. Police said it appeared the driver had been engaged in a road race. Police said Mr. Roderick was in possession of more than an ounce of marijuana. He was also cited for refusing a chemical test, his second offense, according to police. 

Paul T. Roussell, 61, of 389 Stone Church Road, Tiverton, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and resisting arrest around 10:30 a.m. Police made the arrest after receiving a report of a vehicle being operated erratically and nearly striking another vehicle on West Main Road near Mobil Xtra Mart. Police said they found Mr. Roussell’s vehicle in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts. He became combative with officers as they conducted a field sobriety test, and resisted verbal and physical commands, according to police. The driver was also cited for refusing a chemical test.

A 37-year-old Portsmouth woman was charged with domestic assault after police responded to her home around 12:10 p.m. to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. The charge was later dismissed by the prosecution and the case was sealed by a District Court judge.

Sunday, Sept. 27

Gregory D. Delong, 53, of 619 Park Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being pulled over in the area of Gormley Avenue and Pine Street around 1:30 a.m. for multiple moving violations and for not having a front license plate.

Monday, Sept. 28

Zina Bashlayeva, 77, of Quaker Estates Apartments, 2368 East Main Road, was charged with assault around 8 a.m. after allegedly dumping a large bottle of water on someone just outside Building F, according to police.
