The woods in and around Veterans' Park was the scene for two separate police incidents last week.
At about 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, police received a phone call alerting them to a woman laying on the ground near Brickyard Pond.
Police officers responded to the park and located the woman — a 39-year-old Warren resident laying on the ground near the boat launch section of the park.
Police said the woman was heavily intoxicated and initially could not identify herself. Eventually, the woman told police she had been drinking with friends and swimming at the pond, but added that her friends had abandoned her there. (Swimming is not permitted at Brickyard Pond.)
Police called for assistance from the fire department; a rescue responded to the park and later transported the woman to an area hospital for detox. She was not charged.
At about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, police responded to a 911 call for a man passed out in the woods behind Shaw's Supermarket. Those woods abut Veterans' Park.
Police said the man, a 31-year-old former Barrington resident, was extremely intoxicated. Officers said the man had ingested several bottles of vodka and then passed out. Rescue personnel transported the man to an area hospital for detox.
