EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls’ soccer team, having long before secured a berth in the upcoming Division II championship tournament, completed its 2019 regular season with a pair of draws last week.

On Senior Night, October 21, the Townies and visiting Westerly went goalless over 80 minutes at Pierce Stadium. One of the Townies playing her final scheduled game at home, keeper and four-year starter Mia Jackson, made four saves to record the cleansheet. Her counterpart for the Bulldogs, Mackenzie Fusaro, was credited with 10, including one on a penalty kick by E.P. star Alyssa DeOliviera.

Jackson, DeOliviera, Savannah Feola, Aaliyah Pattie, Ashley Cassino-Henriquez, Luana Rodrigues, Isabella Monteiro, Taylor Donnelly and Simone Driscoll-Nicholaus were the seniors recognized before the game.

Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 23, on the road, East Providence and host Wheeler played to a 1-1 decision. Sophomore Olivia Williams, off a Feola feed, accounted for the lone Townie tally. Jackson made six saves for the locals, who finished third alone in the D-II standings with an 11-1-4 record (37 points).

Williams’ goal was her sixth of the year, good for third on the squad behind DeOliveira’s team-best 21 and the eight of Cassino-Henriquez. Hailee Monteiga was next with four. Feola led the Townies with eight assists, DeOliveira had seven, Williams and Tessa Laroche six each and Briana Lopes five.

Unbeaten Pilgrim, which for the second year in a row ended the regular season without a loss at 16-0-0 (48 points) will be the top seed in the playoffs. North Smithfield (14-2-0, 44) is the second seed followed by the Townies and Moses Brown (11-3-2, 35).

A total of 10 teams earned the minimum 19 points required to qualify for the D-II postseason tournament, but not the defending league champions. Mount St. Charles, which upset Pilgrim in the 2018 title game, entered its final game against playoff-qualified Chariho (26 points) with only 13 points and without a chance to reach the minimum amount.
