Pipe flushing program will take place in East Providence

Starts in Kent Heights neighborhood on September 21

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Department of Public Works-Water Utilities Division has announced its plan to begin a water pipe flushing program in the center section of the city on Monday, Sept 21.

The program will take place in the Kent Heights neighborhood, from Warren Avenue south (South Broadway to Boyd Avenue) and surrounding areas.

Flushing or cleaning in water distribution systems is the process of expelling water through fire hydrants to remove sediments that may have built up over time.

Hydrant flushing is performed within water distributions systems on semi-annual basis to remove sediment build-up and thereby improve the water quality.

Customers in flushing may experience discolored water and lower than normal water pressure. Allow your cold water to run for a short time to clear lines. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Crews will perform flushing during normal business and evening hours. Property owners should expect an orange post card notice at least three to five days prior to any flushing in the respective area(s).

For questions or more information, please contact the East Providence Water Utilities Division office at 401-435-7741.
