Little Compton’s Geoff Dennis will show his pictures of birds of the beach and backyard at the Paskamansett Bird Club’s April meeting on Wednesday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Hall of Friends Meeting, 739 Horseneck Road, in South Dartmouth.

Mr. Dennis began photographing birds in his yard in 1995 as a hobby. His hobby eventually led to his providing bird photos for three leading manufacturers of bird feeders. He has observed over 180 species of birds in his yard, including Rhode Island’s first Rufous Hummingbird. He also discovered New England’s first Virginia’s Warbler in Maine.

Mr. Dennis’s work has used been used by many organizations dedicated to preserving the natural world, including the Nature Conservancy of Rhode Island, the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, the US Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Cornell’s online Birds of North America. He has worked with Piping Plovers for the Nature Conservancy of Rhode Island for the past 19 years. Geoff lives in Little Compton with his wife Emily; he is a commercial fisherman.

Geoff will talk about some of the unusual birds he has photographed at Little Compton’s Goosewing Beach. These range from Rhode Island’s first Snowy Plover in the spring to a Magnificent Frigatebird in the fall, as well as Hoary Redpolls in the winter. He will also show common and uncommon birds he has photographed in his yard.

The meeting is free, open to the public, and accessible.
