A woman searching for her missing bird stumbled upon a homeless man who had been living in the woods near Brickyard Pond in Barrington for the last year and a half.

According to police, a Barrington resident was walking through a wooded area near Brickyard Pond on Friday, Aug. 30, searching for her missing pet bird. 

Apparently the woman was calling out for her bird, which is named "Pedro", when she heard a man holler back "There's no Pedro here." The woman then reportedly called police to report the encounter with the man in the woods. 

Officers searched the woods near Brickyard Pond and the East Bay Bike Path and eventually located the man. The subject, who was in his 30s, told police that he had been living in a tent in the woods near the pond for the last year and a half. He allegedly told police he was recovering from substance abuse issues and trying to get back on his feet.

Police told the man that he could not live in the woods and had to remove his tent. The man obliged.
