Patricia (Dever) Davitt, 76, of Barrington, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 surrounded by her family after a short illness.
Pat was born in New York City, the daughter of Patrick and Helena (McGoldrick) Dever. Pat grew up in Fairfield, Conn.
She married Maury C. Davitt in 1962 and lived in Marblehead, Mass. for a time before settling in Barrington in 1964. Pat sat as a model for Norman Rockwell’s painting, “Marriage Counselor” in 1962. She worked at Brown University and Lincoln School. In addition to volunteering for numerous organizations over her lifetime, she was an avid golfer and bridge player. Pat was a passionate sports fan and loved following her favorite college and professional athletes and teams, but her devotion to the exploits and activities of her grandchildren brought her the most joy.
Pat was the heart and soul of the family and is survived by her loving partner in life for over 54 years, Maury, who proudly referred to Pat as “last of the great broads,” and their three children and spouses, Kristin Davitt and her husband, Richard Barr, of Swarthmore, Pa., Amanda Davitt McMullen and her husband, Quentin, of Pawtucket, and Stacie Davitt Murray and her husband, Patrick, of Whitinsville, Mass. Known as “Grammie” to her six grandchildren, Pat was the beloved grandmother to Zoe and Cameron McMullen, Kellan Barr, and Dylan, Jameson, and Braden Murray. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Gene and Ginny Dever of Summerfield, Fla. and Susan (Dever) and Richard Briggs of Milford, Conn. as well as nieces and nephews. Services will be private. Memorial donations can be made to the CollegeReady Fund at Lincoln School, 301 Butler Avenue, Providence, RI, 02906.
