Olive “Ollie” Silva, 95, of Bristol

Olive “Ollie” Silva, 95, passed away Friday Dec. 20, 2019, surrounded by her family.

Ollie was the wife of the late Robert J. Silva.

Ollie was also predeceased by her parents, Antone and Gertrude (Branco) Correia. Ollie is also reunited with her siblings, Mary White, Angelina Pine and Dennis Correia.

Ollie worked in the stitching room at Bristolite Manufacturing for 25 years before stopping to care for her mother. She returned to work for another 16 years at Kinney Company before her retirement in 1994.

She loved taking driving vacations and attending county fairs with her husband. She was a communicant of Saint Elizabeth’s Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She was also a member of the Bristol Senior Citizen Council. Ollie also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ollie leaves behind her children, Kathleen A. Raposa (husband, Dennis) and Robert J. Silva, Jr. (wife, Chris). Ollie’s memory will also live on through her grandchildren, Nicole and Ryan Silva. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, will be Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, at 8 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rhode Island Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906 or Friends of St. Elizabeth, 577 Wood St., Bristol, RI.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
