Officials urge East Providence residents to still celebrate Earth Day during crisis
Cancels planned community events due to pandemic
EAST PROVIDENCE — The City of East Providence, which has celebrated Earth Day for more than 25 years with several community cleanup events during the entire month of April, announced due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will be no such gatherings this month.
But, this year is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and everyone should celebrate this landmark accomplishment in some small way. The city is asking all to do their part, despite being apart with the same goal of keeping East Providence litter free and beautiful.
On Earth Day, April 22, or any day this month, get those gloves on and get to work while staying home cleaning up around the house. Pick up litter that collects at the curb, sidewalk or front yard. Maybe even clean up an elderly neighbor’s yard. If working in flower beds and dividing perennials why not share with neighbors. Get the children involved too. Plan and build a Fairy Garden together or design a butterfly garden.
There are many great Do-It-Yourself (DIY) for yard improvements available online. Find something fun that the whole family can enjoy.
