Noreen C. Sousa, 82, of Bristol

Mrs. Noreen C. (Tavares) Sousa, age 82, of Richmond Street, Bristol, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, in Tockwotton on the Waterfront, East Providence, surrounded by her loving family. 

She was the wife of the late Joseph B. Sousa, Jr., her husband of 47 years, who preceded her in death in December of 2000. Born in and a lifelong resident of Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Rodrigues) Tavares. 

Noreen was a material handler for the Raytheon Corporation of Portsmouth for 20 years, retiring in 1993. She previously worked for the Converse Rubber Company, formerly in Bristol.

Noreen was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Bristol. She loved knitting, sewing, her home on Richmond Street, especially working in her gardens, spending time with her family, and her pets. She was a great animal lover.

She is survived by a son, Leonard M. Sousa (Bernice) of East Providence, and a grandson, Eli J. Connors (Kristen) of Bethel, Conn. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Marie (Sousa) Connors, and a son, Joseph Richard Sousa. 

Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, will be Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood S., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.

Visitation will be Friday morning only from 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HopeHealth – Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI  02904 or online at www.hopehealthco.org/hospice
