Portsmouth teen wins Finish For A Guinness 5K in Warren

Although he didn’t get to toss back a pint at the end of the race, Portsmouth resident James McCarron III, 13, placed first overall in the 11th annual Finish for a Guinness 5K Sunday in Warren. James finished the race in 17 minutes, 38 seconds — a full 32 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. He was among 17 runners from Portsmouth who competed in Warren on Sunday.

The race, which attracted more than 800 runners this year, raises funds and awareness for research into a cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease, or ALS. Solo runners walked, jogged and full out ran the course, from the Old Warren Marina, to halfway up Seymour Street and back, while teams wore matching T-shirts in honor of loved ones, departed friends, and causes. When it was all over, they all met back at the marina for a wide selection of food from Warren and other local restaurants and of course, pints of Guinness and other suds.
