Officials encouraging mail ballots for primary

Barrington native Julia Soares, a senior member of the field hockey team at Gettysburg College, was recently named to the ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The Academic Squad honors individuals who maintained a grade point average of 3.3 or better during the fall semester. Julia has been named to the Academic Squad four times.

Officials encouraging mail ballots in upcoming primary

The Rhode Island Board of Elections is coordinating with the Rhode Island Department of Health to ensure polling place readiness and encourages voters to cast mail ballots. Presidential Preference Primary mail ballot applications must be received by the Barrington Town Clerk's office no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 for the Tuesday, April 28 Primary election. Visit the town's website, www.barrington.ri.gov to download an application.

Barrington athlete takes fifth in Worcester fencing tournament

Anna Bamford from Barrington represented the Rhode Island Fencing Academy & Club at a “D” and under fencing tournament hosted by Worcester Fencing Club in early March. Anna placed fifth in the women’s foil event. She is a members of the RIFAC national, youth, competitive team, training under owner, head coach, and Barrington resident Alex Ripa.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
