Senior Strength class focuses on reducing risk of falls

Posted

The Bayside YMCA in Barrington is offering a Senior Strength class as part of its efforts to support older adults in maintaining independence and improving their quality of life.

Specifically designed for seniors, the class focuses on building muscle strength, enhancing balance, and increasing flexibility—essential elements in reducing the risk of falls.

September marked Fall Prevention Awareness Month, a national campaign that brings attention to the importance of preventing falls among older adults. Falls are the leading cause of injury in this age group, with one in four Americans ages 65 and older experiencing a fall each year. These incidents result in more than 3 million emergency department visits annually in the U.S., making fall prevention a critical public health issue.

By focusing on strength and balance, the Senior Strength class at Bayside YMCA helps seniors reduce their risk of falls and stay active.

The YMCA’s initiative aligns with national efforts to promote senior wellness through targeted preventive programs.
