The 2019-2020 Barrington Middle School wrestling team finished its regular season in a strong fashion, defeating a tough Ponaganset team 60-30 in front of a large crowd.
The final regular season meet also featured eighth grade appreciation night, where all the parents of all eighth grade wrestlers are recognized.
This year's Barrington team consists of 43 wrestlers, which is the largest number of wrestlers in recent history. Kevin Robinson, Sean Zimmerman, Jackson Cortese and Hunter Hughes serve as captains for the team.
A number of Barrington Middle School wrestlers were expected to compete at the Futures Tournament on Jan. 25 and 26; any wrestlers who place in the top-3 of their respective weight divisions are qualified to compete in the varsity state tournament on Feb. 1 and 2.
Barrington Middle School Wrestling Coach Dave DeSisto said several wrestlers, including Trevor Snow, Mitchel Kobel, Henry McClellend, Nate Gravelle, Ezra Arrizidonne, and Andrew Radcliffe, could make the cut.
“We are sending close to 30 wrestlers and every one them can come home with medals,” he said.
Coach DeSisto said he expects a strong finish to the season.
“We are peaking at the right time and this is one of the strongest teams I have ever coached," he said. "It’s not really a team but a family."
