Merriman R. “Lefty” Barnes, 86, died Friday, July 10, 2020, at home in Bristol. He was the son of the late Harry Doyle and Arlene (Barber) Almeida. He was the husband of the late Genevieve “Jinx” (Rego) Barnes.
Lefty was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Local Carpenters Union working in construction for many years before his retirement. He was a “jack of all trades” who enjoyed fishing and quahogging, working on cars, and was proficient in all aspects of construction, which led him to rebuilding his home after a fire. He was a member of the VFW Post 237 in Bristol.
He leaves his children, Cheryl Dahlman of Florida; Merriman R. “Sonny” Barnes II of Warwick and Marlene G. Teixeira of Bristol. He was the loving grandfather of Shayne Barnes, Derrick Barnes, Nicholas Barnes, Andrew Teixiera and the late Crystal Lee Rainey; great-grandfather of Zachary Jarrod Pacheco, Gianna Genevieve Ciccone, Xavier Barnes and Annabel Marie Ciccone.
