Mary A. Cabral, 90, of Evelyn Drive passed away on Jan. 2, 2020, at home. She was the wife of the late Joseph Cabral.

Born in Manguald, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Leonidio and Firmina (Medeiros) Cabral. She is survived by her children, Mary Linda Soderlund and her husband Stephen, Helen Cabral and Paul Cabral; grandchildren, Chuck Soderlund and Lyn Soderlund; and great-granddaughter, Sienna Soderlund. She was the sister of the late Olympia Mottas and Laura Dansereau.

Mary was a telephone operator/receptionist for the former Dixon Corp. in Bristol for 33 years and was co-owner of Cabral’s Gourmet Chicken with her late husband, Joseph.

She was an avid reader, volunteering in the reading program in the Bristol School System for several years, bringing stories to life for many children. Mary also loved doing challenging crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. Her favorite pastimes were going to the casino and playing bocce with the Hopeworth gang right up to 90 years of age, a testament to her dauntless spirit.

She was a fiercely independent woman who never failed to express her opinion or stand up for what she believed.  She will surely be missed by her family and friends.

Her funeral services were held Jan. 7 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Gilberto Orioli at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Chuck Soderlund and Lyn Soderlund. The Prayer of the Faithful was ready by Abby Cabral, and the offertory gifts were presented by Chuck Soderlund, Lyn Soderlund and Sienna Soderlund.

Burial followed in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River Mass. Serving as pallbearers were Chuck Soderlund, Tim Cabral, Louis Cabral, Armand Cabral, Mike Cabral and Louis Rodrigues.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of RI 1085 North Main St., Providence RI 02904 or @Home Healthcare, 567 South County Trail, Suite 302, Exeter RI 02822.
