Maria Gilda (Dos Santos) Clemente, 78, passed away on Sept. 7 at Silver Creek Manor. She was the wife of the late Manuel Clemente.

Born in Madeira, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Delfina (Pestana) Dos Santos. She was the sister of Maria Rodrigues, Bernadette Mirco, Engracia Dos Santos, Palmira Dos Santos, Adriano Dos Santos, Manuel Dos Santos, and the late Elias Dos Santos, Virgil Dos Santos and Annibal Dos Santos.

Mrs. Clemente attended school in Portugal and was a machine operator at Carol Cable for 30 years before retiring. Creating embroidery in the Madeira style was her passion as well as traveling to her home in Madeira whenever possible. She also enjoyed gardening and attending flea markets and yard sales.

Her funeral services were held Sept. 12 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Luis Garcia Dutra at St. Elizabeth Church. The offertory gifts were presented by Rita Lopes and Engracia Salley. Burial followed in Notre Dame Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Aires Lopes, Joseph Rodrigues, Neil Salley and Paul Rodrigues.

Memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI 02809.
