Maria Albertina (Furtado) Vieira, 85, of State Street passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Jan. 2, 2019. She was the wife of the late Jose Moniz Vieira.
Born in Rabo de Peixe, St. Michael, she was the daughter of the late Jose Manuel Lucas and Maria Filomena Furtado. She is survived by her children, Filomena and the late John Machado of Warren, John Vieira and his wife Etelvina of Bristol, Gorette Goncalves and her husband Billy of Bristol, Jose Vieira and his wife Maria Gorette of Warren, Jaime Vieira and his wife Sandra of Bristol, Tony Vieira and his wife Linda of Bristol, Lucie Goncalves and the late Fernando of Bristol, Inez Vieira of Riverside, Mario Vieira and his wife Sandy of Warren, and Frank Vieira and his wife Sandra of Swansea; 35 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Jimmy Vieira and the late Jeffrey Vieira. She was the sister of the late Maria Gloria Sedoma and the late Maria Inez Carrita.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Church and devoted member of the Holy Ghost committee. Her life was led by her profound love and faith in God.
Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her large family. She was happiest when singing her favorite songs, cooking and playing cards with her family.
Above all, she will be remembered as a loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and for her fabulous bighearted hugs and kisses.
Funeral was Jan. 5 at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. www.limafh.com
