Many familiar faces not running for re-election in Barrington

Nearly a half-dozen incumbents in Barrington will not be seeking re-election in the fall.

Three sitting town councilors, one school committee member, and the town moderator did not file declaration papers and will not be running for re-election in November.

Council members Kate Weymouth, Steve Boyajian and Joy Hearn, and school committee member Anna Clancy are not running for re-election. And town moderator Julia Califano will also step down following next month's financial town meeting.

Three council seats will be available, and four residents will be vying for them — three democrats and one independent. The democrats are Carl Kustell, Robert Humm and Annelise Conway, while John Alessandro will run as an independent.

Three school committee seats will also be up for grabs this fall, with incumbents Dr. Megan Douglas and Patrick McCrann, and newcomer Amanda Regino-Basse all running. All three are democrats.

Longtime Barrington resident and current member of the committee on appropriations Richard Staples will be running unopposed for town moderator.

And all three local legislators are also running unopposed — Cindy Coyne (Senate, District 32), Liana Cassar (House, District 66), and Jason Knight (House, District 67). All three are democrats.

More about the council candidates

Most of the people who filed papers to run for office, have already spent time serving the town in other roles.

In the race for the council seats, all four candidates are currently sitting on other town boards or commissions.

• Mr. Alessandro is a former member of the School Committee and a current member of the town's Committee on Appropriations.

• Ms. Conway is a member of the town's Housing Board of Trustees.

• Mr. Humm is the chairman of the town's Planning Board and is chairman of the town's Economic Development Committee.

• Mr. Kustell is a member of the town's Economic Development Commission.
