Manuel Pereira Aguiar, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 6, 2019.

Born in Castelo Branco, Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Laura (DeFreitas) Aguiar.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Lourdes (DaSilva) Aguiar, with whom he shared his life for 59 years.

He leaves behind his daughter, Maria M. Aguiar of Bristol.

He was the brother of Idalina Santos of Fall River, Mass., Teresa DaSilva of Somerset, Mass., and the late Charles W. Aguiar, Maria Fialho, Odilia Souto, and Carlos Manuel Aguiar.

Before coming to this country, he was manager of a Café in Lajes, Flores. He then worked as a laborer for the Thoresen Forms Company of Boston, Mass., until his retirement.

Manuel enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and playing cards/dominoes with his friends at the Bristol Sports Club.  He was an avid fan of the Benefica Soccer. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially during holiday gatherings and on trips abroad to Canada and Portugal.

His funeral services were held Sept. 12 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. The offertory gifts were presented by Maria Aguiar and Michelle Medeiros. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Samuel Silva, Edward Medeiros, Luis Santos and Adolfo Santos.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to:  Friends of St. Elizabeth Food Pantry, 577 Wood St., Bristol RI  02809.
