TIVERTON — A man in his early 20's operating a motorcycle died at the scene Thursday afternoon following a collision about 4:10 p.m. with a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Pond Bridge Road and Main Road in Tiverton.

The identity of the man, his age, and residence, were not determined as of 8:30 p.m., said Tiverton Police Captain Patrick Jones Thursday evening. The motorcycle, a Honda, was registered to a woman, he said.

The name of the woman driving the Ford Explorer was not immediately released, though she was known to be a Little Compton resident.

Both the man and the woman driver were transported to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, Captain Jones said. The woman was not believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries, he said.

The cause and circumstances of the collision was still being investigated as night fell Thursday. Only two vehicles were involved.

The motorcycle, headed north on Main Road, struck the Ford Explorer on the passenger side, which may have been in the process of making a turn.

The speed of the motorcycle is being investigated as a potential factor in the incident, Captain Jones said.
