Madeline R. Sweet, 94, Warren

Madeline R. (Sampson) Sweet, 94, of Warren, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at Hope Hospice in Providence. She was the wife of the late Russell O. Sweet.

Madeline was born in Warren, the daughter of the late Alexander and Loretta (Foley) Sampson. She was a homemaker, a lifelong Warren resident, and a parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Church.

Madeline and her late husband had owned an antique store called Sweet’s Catch, and they also owned Sweet’s Seafood. Mrs. Sweet was an avid gardener. She enjoyed reading and traveled when she could. She also loved spending time at her home and in her yard. She also loved her cat Abby.

Mrs. Sweet was the mother of Rebecca Palumbo of Bristol and Catherine Salamon of Bristol.

She was the sister of Gerald “Sam” Sampson of Warren.
Mrs. Sweet was the grandmother of Bryan and Michael Palumbo, and Alissa and Amanda Salamon.

She was also the great-grandmother of Sarah, Allison, Alexander, Jacob, Ella Palumbo and also Levi Chabot.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Madeline was the sister of the late Alice Joyce Annunziata.

Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted.

Madeline will be buried in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
