The Mt. Hope High School Choral Department is proud to announce that their quarterly open mic, “Musicafe,” will be held virtually, on YouTube, on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7:15 p.m. The event will feature many music students, playing and singing a wide range of songs and styles.
“This open mic is something we would normally do live every quarter in the cafeteria,” said Choral Director David Lauria. “We haven’t held one in a year.”
“The last one every year is a tribute to the seniors, and the Class of 2020 didn’t get that.”
The format involves students recording themselves performing at home, so there is a lot of technical work to be done behind the scenes, especially with duets or other group performances that need to be synchronized. “It’s a lot of work, but they’re coming out great,” said Mr. Lauria.
Mr. Lauria expects a total of 14 performers to participate, and he is especially gratified that so many graduates are contributing. “I’m so thankful that they are giving their time to come back,” he said. Selections will also include works that would have been performed at a winter concert, had one been held this year.
All Bristol and Warren residents, whether or not they have a high school student, are invited to watch the premiere, which will be featured on the MHHS Choral Department’s official YouTube channel, available at https://tinyurl.com/mhhs-yt-sub.
