Lydia M. (Nunes) DiSalvo, age 89, passed away peacefully Monday, June 1, 2020 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the wife of the late William DiSalvo.

Born in Warren, a daughter of the late Norbert and Lydia (Pontes) Nunes, she was a lifelong resident of Warren before moving to Bristol and Middletown in recent years.

A graduate of Warren High School, Class of 1948, she attended nursing classes and became a Nurse’s Aide.

A former communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, she was a member of their Rosary and Altar Society and of the RI VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Warren.

She is survived by three daughters, Arlene DiSalvo of Bristol, Ann Marie DiSalvo of Newport and Estelle Dubuc and her husband Paul of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Emma McKinney, Nathan Dubuc and Tyler Dubuc; and nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Anthony Nunes and Mary DeFelice.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 10  am in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main St., Warren, followed by burial in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to John Clarke Center, Attn: Activities Fund, 600 Valley Rd., Middletown, RI 02842.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
