Lucille R. Gauvin, 92, died on Thursday, March 12, 2020. She was the widow of Dr. Normand E. Gauvin and a resident of Woodlands Senior Living in Lewiston, Maine at the time of her passing. Previously, she resided in Riverside and Barrington; Naples, Fla.; and the Seattle area.

Luci was born on Oct. 21, 1927 in Woonsocket, the daughter of Edgar Cote’ and Rena (Petit) Cote’. She graduated from Boston College in the class of 1950 and held masters degrees in nursing and library science. She practiced and taught nursing in the Boston area in her younger years. Her three sons survive her—Charles of New Gloucester, Maine; Paul of Sammamish, Wash.; and John of Burien, Washington. In addition, she leaves their spouses—Gina Sawin of New Gloucester, Maine; May Gauvin of Sammamish, Wash.; and Yuko Kusakabe of Burien, Wash.; and five grandchildren—Alice Gauvin of San Francisco, Calif.; Charles Gauvin Jr. of Portland, Maine; Emile Gauvin of Seattle, Wash.; Lucien Gauvin of Seattle; and Madeleine Gauvin of Sammamish, Wash.

Throughout her life and wherever she was, Luci was extensively involved in public service, community organizations, and was known for being kind and generous to the people she knew and met. From her youth through her eldest days, Luci maintained her ability to "tell it like it is" and bring cheer to people around her.  She brought hope to the sad, humor to the downtrodden, and at times humility to those who overestimated their self-worth. Friends and family remember Luci for her kindness, generosity and tireless efforts to bring out the best in other people. Always the nurse and devoted wife, she spent a large part of her later years caring for her husband, Normand, who had to retire early from his pediatric practice because of Parkinson's disease.

Funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks instead that you do something nice for someone who needs your help or support.
