Lobsterman dies after going overboard from Tiverton-based boat

Tiverton Police report that a lobsterman on the Tiverton-based offshore lobster boat Sakonnet Lobster II went overboard and died early Monday.

The accident took place about 75 miles southeast of Montauk Point at the east end of Long Island.

The victim has been identified as Joseph Zinno, 26, of Narragansett. His body was retrieved at around 6 a.m., about an hour and a quarter after he went into the water.

The case remains under investigation and authorities have not yet said if they know what caused him fall of the boat.

His body was brought back to Tiverton and handed over to the medical examiner’s office.
