Emma Leary of Little Compton and a student at St. Mary Academy - Bay View in East Providence, competed in the 2019 USRowing Youth Regional Challenge last weekend in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla. She was one of only two Rhode Island rowers chosen from a field of 1,600 athletes in the Northeast region.

Emma placed second in her U16 (under 16) women’s 8+ (coxed eight), with a time of 6:49.93, and first in the U16 women’s 4+ (coxed four), with a time of 8:29.9. The Northeast Regional team she competed with also won the overall points cup, outscoring all other regions with 205 points.

“Emma always puts forward her best effort, not only at every race but at every practice, motivating others in her boat to do the same,” said Lisa Evans, Bay View’s head crew coach. “An accomplished rower on and off the water, Emma's strength and fitness level are unmatched by most her age.”
