Please don't call the Tiverton Zoning Board of Review a “zoning board"! The members apparently don't understand what zoning means. They don't seem to know the zoning definitions. They don't understand the intent of Tiverton's Comprehensive Plan. If they did, they would never permit a regional business in a plot zoned for a community business. But, on May 7, that is exactly what the majority of the board did. With the notable exception of one member, George Alzaibak, whom the board chair and the town solicitor repeatedly tried unsuccessfully to silence, the board voted to approve special use permits allowing a Seasons gas station, convenience store, and drive-thru coffee shop at the corner of Main and Souza roads. This is a regional business that will forever change the small town character of Tiverton. The town solicitor might have corrected this error, but he either doesn't know land use law or perhaps he is just nervous of potential litigation from Seasons.
