Letter: Write in ‘John Vitkevich’ for water board tax collector

To the editor:

On June 13, 13,000 Portsmouth Water and Fire District voters will have the unique opportunity to write in my name, John Vitkevich, for tax collector. There are 13,000 of you, 02871 lovers! I need your votes!

I did attempt to get my name on the official ballot. Due to a staff error, I was given the wrong nomination form.

The 31 signatures I received were reviewed and approved for John Vitkevich to be on the ballot.

Four of six members of the Portsmouth Water and Fire District board voted to reject my candidacy on May 15. It was their staff error.

An appeal to the R.I. Board of Elections would be fruitless. The Portsmouth Water and Fire District does not follow Title 17 voter rules. No appeal is available at the Board of Elections. I considered Superior Court, (but) that is very (expensive).

I know it’s a lot to ask you to get into your car and dodge all the potholes on that section of East Main Road, but you have from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

If you know me, you know my efforts for 02871. This board is responsible for the water system, maintenance, system expansion, water property tax and water rate pricing. The Portsmouth Water and Fire District Administrative Board was set up in 1952. It Is 2018; this board could use three new members — fresh blood.

Now for those of you that know me as “John Vit,” write it in. It is about voter intention. I am John Vitkevich and I am known as John Vit. We both get mail and we would both appreciate your vote on June 13, 2018. Please bring your current photo identification between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. to the  Portsmouth Water and Fire District office (1944 East Main Road) to vote.

Any questions? johnvit@kw.com or 401/952-1953.

No seat should ever run unopposed! Thank you.

John Vitkevich
