Letter: TTA, like Trump, showed themselves unfit right off

To the editor:

President Trump has said and done many things that objectively are untrue, unfair, unprecedented, and unnecessary.  This startling, stark, steady accumulation of lies and nonsense has convinced many Americans of his unfitness for any elected office.  For my money, however, his initial announcement for the presidency when he excoriated our Mexican neighbors was quite enough to oppose him fundamentally.

Here in Tiverton there is in my opinion a parallel.  The TTA members on the Town Council have said and done things over the months since their election to convince many voters that they are unfit for their elected offices.  For my money, however, their initial decision to appoint a town solicitor who had a serious deficit of experience and an apparent conflict of interest was quite enough to oppose them fundamentally.  I signed the recall petition with no gladness but with confidence it was the right move.
