Letter: The Barrington Republicans support a flag policy

To the editor:

The Barrington Republican Town Committee (BRTC) would like to congratulate the new members of the Town Council on their recent election.

As they take on their new duties, we hope that developing a flag policy is one of their top priorities. We feel it is beneficial for our town, our townspeople, and also the town council to formalize a policy that directs government speech, especially as it relates to the flagpole and the American flag.

The previous council's decision to avoid formalizing a policy has only added to the acrimony and divisiveness surrounding this issue. Until a policy is adopted, this issue will fester and take up valuable time at each council meeting.

The BRTC supports the United Veterans Council and their campaign to ‘Keep Politics Off The Pole.’ We hope the new town council agrees.
