To the editor:
On Friday, Sept. 27 approximately 75 young men and women from town came and helped us unload around three thousand pumpkins at St. John’s Episcopal Church. We asked for help from student groups, sports teams, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts from around town and they came out strong.
If you drove by the church between 5 and 7 p.m. that evening you would have seen some of them unloading the pumpkins from the truck, others moving them onto our lawn and the rest arranging the pumpkins. We are so incredibly thankful for their hard work enabling all these pumpkins to be unloaded and set up in just a couple of hours.
My favorite thing about our Pumpkin Patch is the community that builds in and around it. Whether it be neighbors, old and new, connecting or reconnecting with one another while searching for their perfect pumpkin, little children running through the pumpkins making friends and playing tag or hide and seek, or any of the other little things that highlight what a wonderful community we have in Barrington, it is such a delight seeing our community come together in these ways. The laughter in the air on Friday evening and the palpable sense of joy as these young men and women unloaded the pumpkins was another sign of this great community that we are so fortunate to call home.
Thank you to each and every one of you who came out to help unload the pumpkins and make all this possible.
The Rev. Patrick J. Greene
Rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church
