To the editor:
Thank you, Jan Malik, Warren’s man for all seasons.
About 30 years ago, I remember being courtside with Jan at our son’s basketball games in the winter and on the sidelines at baseball games in the spring and summer. Back in the day, I had huge Memorial Day parties and back then, liquor stores were closed on Memorial Day. Lucky for me, one of my many guests owned a liquor store. So when beer ran low, guess who came to the rescue?
Jan started out at the highway department on the recycling truck and drove it all the way to the top, making sure our winter roads were clear and safe. In the winter and spring he would don a suit and tie and go to the State House. I still don’t see how Warren is any better since his departure. A footnote to that; Jan is the only Democrat I ever voted for.
There are not too many Warren homes that did not celebrate New Year’s, St. Patricks Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas without wine, beer, and spirits from Malik’s Liquors.
There is a saying that applies here. “Behind every successful man there is a woman.” Jan would be the first to push Mary up front!
In every season, hot or cold, Jan Malik was always “cool”.
I stood in line to vote for him. I stood in line to buy beer from him, and now I stand in a very long line to thank him for all he did for his home town; Warren.
Happy retirement Malik’s!
