To the editor:
Here at Tap-In our list of people to thank is always a long one. It’s no surprise that during this extraordinary year it is a record-breaker. Two special local donors have helped us get through the Covid 19 pandemic.
In February, the Barrington Shaw’s Market was responsible for the largest one-day food donation in our 37-year history, a result of their very successful Spirit of Giving campaign during the holidays. A fleet of pick-up trucks and 28 Tap-In volunteers, aided by Shaw’s employees, moved over 6 TONS of food from the Shaw’s warehouse to our pantry (and any other available space!) Shaw’s customers had donated bags of food during the holidays, an amount that totaled over $11,000. Our Barrington Shaw's, led by store manager Karen Medeiros, made the seventh largest donation of the organization’s 150 stores. Go Barrington!
In May, Seven Stars Bakery, owned by Barrington residents Bill and Tracy Daugherty, brought their legendary baked goods to pop-up shops in Barrington. Customers had the opportunity to order additional loaves of bread to be donated to Tap-In. Earlier in the summer, 300 loaves of freshly baked bread were distributed with food parcels to Tap-In families over a six-week period. It was a tasty surprise and a lovely hometown touch. We thank Seven Stars Bakery and its customers for their kindness.
Finally, we are extraordinarily grateful to the Presbyterian Church for our temporary headquarters while the Peck Center renovation continue. Their warm welcome and generosity in sharing their space deserves a special highlight.
The kindness of our community never ceases to amaze us.
Sincerely,
Jo Rodehorst
TAP-IN President
