Letter: States must stand up to federal government invasions

Posted

Here in Bristol we are distracted by flag controversies, disgruntled third-party politics and small-mentality. It is said that all politics is local, so I hope that we are able to see clearly what is happening around us through the fog.

It is noteworthy to realize that Trump and Barr have sent unidentified Stormtroopers into the cities they have identified as “Democratic” strongholds. Their hand-picked judges deny these Democratic citizens their constitutional rights to peaceful protest and threaten to withhold federal aid to these states unless they submit to these outrageous interventions.

This makes a lie of our respect for democracy and  lawful government. If we stand quietly by and let this happen, we are tacitly complicit in this disgraceful attack on our democratic institutions. Is not the National Guard under the command of the governor in each state? Cannot the governor call out the National Guard to protect against this unlawful intrusion by unidentified Nazi-like Stormtroopers?

There is a remarkable symmetry between Trump’s Storm Troopers and the deadly Coronavirus, in that 75 percent of all coronavirus deaths have occurred in Democratic neighborhoods. Is it not understandable that the Republicans in Congress and President Trump have not done anything to protect the U.S. public during the past six months against the spread of the pandemic, since it is attacking predominantly Democratic districts, nor have they done anything to stop the gas attacks on peaceful protesters in these same states?

Is this just another insidious and evil way for Trump and Barr to suppress the Democratic vote and steal the election? Sounds like a plan that only Vladimir Putin would approve.
