I am writing to bring attention to the two bills recently filed in the RI Senate (S2549) and RI House (H7500) proposing taxpayer dollars be used for abortion. As a Christian, I believe I have a moral obligation to fight to preserve the sanctity of life, for the 63 million babies who have been aborted in the US since Roe v. Wade in 1973.
I find abortion extremely troubling as it is, but to force citizens to pay for the decisions of others to destroy innocent human life is intolerable. No citizen of this free country should be required to fund a practice which goes against his or her values. Abortion is not a human right, and it is certainly not healthcare.
I urge my fellow Rhode Islanders who also see this as a matter of moral or religious conviction to let your voices be heard. As Proverbs 31:8 says, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute."
