Letter: Senior Center staff keep rising to the occasion

Posted

We would like to express our extreme appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the Bristol Senior Center staff. The past eight months have been hard on everyone, but trying to keep our residents safe and healthy has resulted in more solitude, loneliness and uncertainty than ever before, and the senior center has confronted that challenge head on.

Our residents have received soup from Blount, bags of groceries and meals from local restaurants, like shepherds pie, pork and beans, American chop suey and sandwiches from them. This past Thursday they brought a full Thanksgiving dinner, complete with pumpkin pie and sweet rice.

They have dropped off sweet bread for Easter, gifts for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, Christmas in July gifts and bags of goodies in between.  They also have delivered masks, painted rocks, pizza and so much more.

Every delivery has come with a note saying “you are not forgotten,” “we love you” and “stay safe.”

Everything is dropped at the door of the building with a masked smile and warm greeting. They have risen above the definition of a senior center and decided to be family to a generation of people who have had to stay away from their families to stay safe.

Thank you again to the staff of the Bristol Senior Center and to all others who have assisted them with their good work during this pandemic.
