To the editor:
I was disturbed to read that kindergarten at the Hugh Cole School has a 'rigorous curriculum' (Hugh Cole targets lagging student attendance, Sept. 13.) where missing a day causes children to fall behind.
Fall behind what? Kindergarten is for organized play and learning to share toys and crayons, take turns talking and listening, walk in lines, sing in groups and hold hands while dancing in a circle.
If we are putting the pressure of a curriculum on children in kindergarten, I fear for their mental health.
