I recently had the opportunity to be invited to attend the Portsmouth Citizens Police Academy, a 10-week program that highlights the various duties, interactions and capabilities of our local police department.
To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. All of the instructors volunteered their time to discuss their expertise in the various disciplines expected in today's evolving profession of law enforcement.
The challenges are significant and demanding. It became clear to me that public service is a calling. (A) high level of responsibility, long hours and emotional encounters are not standard matters for any human.
Chief Lee and Deputy Chief Peters did a fantastic job developing and executing this academy. I would recommend that any member of the community apply for this worthwhile program when next available. You won't regret it.
