To the editor: I thought the article “Sakonnet Point compound for sale” was well done, informative, and the photographs were excellent. I believe there is one discrepancy, however. The “Barn” was built by Dr. Henry Demarest Lloyd Jr. who owned the property previously owned by his father, Henry D. Lloyd. The land extended east to Washington Road and included the mansion “Watch House.” My grandfather Vyvan Roy MacKay was in the employ of the family from about 1918-1957 when Dr Lloyd’s widow passed away. Dr. Lloyd maintained a large winter residence in Brookline, Mass., as well as a silver mine in Arizona. The farm was fairly small with sheep, pigs, chickens and eight or nine milking cows. The farm was maintained by George Davoll and his son Richard Davoll. My wife and I spent many happy summer days there as children with Richard’s kids. Ronald MacKay Little Compton |
