Letter: Please, take down the Portsmouth wind turbine

This Oct. 5 letter was addressed to Town Administrator Richard Rainer and members of the Portsmouth Town Council. The council is expected to discuss the letter at its next regular meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9.

To the editor:

I write to you again with another chance to encourage you to correct the mistake of the past and have the courage to take down the wind turbine once and for all.

These continued complications and delay tactics are a sure sign that the turbine project continues to be a series of bad decisions and flawed business dealings.

From the start this project was not properly researched and continues the premise to operate an industrial business towering over residential properties without proper studies of site, safety or impact.

Take the final chance to realize and acknowledge that these turbines do not belong looming over residential homes. There is no excuse whatsoever to not know now the detrimental effects of shadow flicker, strobe lighting, pulsing, vacuum impact and the freight train/airplane engine noise levels these turbines cause.

Take this final opportunity to resolve an improperly researched zealous action of yesteryear and stop deals with unclear contracts. Stand up knowing that yes, “we’re come this far” for enough to learn that not all ideas are good ones and that it’s OK to say this idea is no longer for us, and that it’s time for the turbine to come to a forever-spinning halt.

Please, take down the wind turbine. Thank you.
