Letter: Please support responsible budget #1 for Tiverton

Posted

I write on behalf of the Tiverton School Committee to urge all citizens to come to the polls on May 17, 18 and 19 to vote in support of the proposed budget of the Tiverton Budget Committee (Budget #1). As many have noted in other letters to this newspaper, the committee worked conscientiously through many hours this year to arrive at a fiscal plan for our town that is credible, responsible and fair to all citizens.

Conversely, the petitioner’s budget put forward by Justin Katz makes irresponsible assumptions about casino revenue, attacks our emergency services and threatens the financial stability of the town by taking money from the general fund. This last issue has in the past had an adverse effect on our bond rating.

Please help maintain the stability and quality of life of our town by supporting Budget #1.
